Super Mario Galaxy Film Teaser Arrives, Revealing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices

Nintendo and Illumination released the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. It was showcased in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that highlighted the forthcoming animated feature.

The sequel to the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will transport Mario to the outer limits of the galaxy. There, he will encounter a fresh princess character and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.

An Interstellar Journey Based on Beloved Titles

Much like the Wii-era games that provide its foundation, Mario will depart from the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. During his grand adventure, he will reunite with some familiar faces, for instance the Luma, a popular character from the original cinematic release.

However, it seems Mario and his brother Luigi will confront a new threat in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who reportedly wields metal-based powers. Interestingly, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also contains hints to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

All-Star Vocal Ensemble Come Back and Grow

The feature will feature once again of the original voice cast, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. It was announced by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.

A Big Year for Mario

The upcoming Mario film is scheduled to arrive near the 40th anniversary of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. In addition to the movie, 2026 promises to be a important time for Mario and his companions.

Nintendo confirmed a trio of new releases already confirmed for that year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Premiere Date Announced

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
